General
The Jaguar E-type went into production in 1961 and was the successor of the famous XK120, XK140 and XK150. The E-type was shown to the public on March 15th at the Geneva Motor Show and immediately became popular due to it’s exciting and elegant design as well as the technical concept. Looking at so many beautiful details it becomes clear that you’re watching absolute, timeless beautiness in automobile design. It is a form of art!
History
This specific E-type roadster (or Open Two Seater) is a Series 2, known for it’s open headlamp design, improved tail lights for better visibility and revised interior (more space).
This beautiful example was manufactured in May 1969 and date of dispatch was 4 June 1969, distributed by British Leyland, New York.
First delivered in the USA and imported to The Netherlands in 1998. The Dutch owner – a classic car specialist in Amsterdam – bought this car as his own special project. He started a nut & bolt project which commenced with complete disassembly of the car. Bodywork was done and the car was completely resprayed in Indigo Blue. Most of the mechanics were overhauled. In 2016 the owner decided to sell the car due to lack of time and resources. The car was then bought by me after assessing the restoration which was at about 50%.
Restoration
Since 2016 I own this car and took the time to finsish to restoration. This included refinishing some aspects of the previous restoration. The interior was a little tatty so I chose for a completely new Old English Red interior to match perfect with the Indigo Blue paint. Over a period of 6 years the restoration was carried out and numerous small and large tasks were executed, amongst which:
- new soft top frame (blasted and painted)
- installing new soft top (incl. new chrome finishers, hinges etc) and new hood envelope
- new red interior with new seat squabs and all new carpets
- new engine wiring loom and going through all electrical systems
- new boot (trunk) upholstery
- installing new tinted windscreen incl. rubbers and all chrome finishers
- fuel system: new pump, rebuilt and tuned carbs (ultrasonic cleaning and rebuild kits)
- brake system overhauled
- engine checked, cleaned and all accessories either cleaned/overhauled/refinished/renewed
- Upgrades: spin-on oil filter conversion & hi-torque starter motor
- Uprated cooling system with new aluminium radiator, new fans in matching shroud and Revotec electronic fan controller
- Final works, checks and tuning by a Jaguar specialist
A Heritage certificate and some history is present. Also many invoices for parts and labour as well as a documented restoration file.
Full Dutch registration and license plate.
In the boot you will find next to the hood envelope a tool roll kit and a Thor Brand mallet for wheel spinner/knock off removal.
This car is ready to drive and enjoy!
Due to lack of time (and too many cars) the car is being sold.
